Sample Project

As you might imagine, in helping churches put their data into a database we receive data in a wide variety of formats. Sometimes it is fairly database-friendly already, other times not so much. In this sample assignment, you'll be given two files - an example of what might be received from a church and a template file showing what the data should look like after being standardized (the template has taken the first line from the church file to serve as an example). The file from the sample church represents a collection of challenges to standardization that we come across.

Don't feel like you need to complete it, in fact, we expect you not to (there's a lot of things that need fixing). Due to the size of the data, this is meant to be done via formulas and scripts, not manually. We'd recommend spending no more than an hour or so on it. Once the time has wrapped up, please:

1) Upload file back with as much completed as you have done.

2) Upload the Visual Basic scripts you used to complete the process. If you used multiple scripts, please zip them together prior to uploading. (Applications that use a language other than VB Script will not be considered).

As you get into it, if you find that this is not your cup of tea, no sweat - finding that out early can help us both move on to better fits.

Here's the links to the files. They are read-only and so feel free to copy/paste them to work on them locally.
